Reblogged from Feminism is Empathological:
I cannot attend my church again.
Yesterday I went to church, and for the first time in quite a few weeks, the head pastor preached. There are 3 preaching pastors; the associates are far better than the main one. But that’s beside the point.
I was once part of the transformation of a small church into a mega church. We attended, along with a couple hundred others, in a school gymnasium in The Woodlands TX.
This guy nails it! Our churches are focusing on the wrong things and leaving a bad taste in the mouth. We are having the same difficulties of finding a decent church before my husband once again says we must leave and find people who are looking for God and who preach the gospel and grace. We must devote ourselves to Christ, focus on Him and not ourselves and then our lenses through which we view this world will be radically different.
Sounds like you have some deep convictions. Good for you that you can act on yours. Lead the way.
Thank you hiddensight, this blog by empathologicalism really felt familiar and I couldn’t ignore it.
I didn’t agree with everything that he said, but you phrased it perfectly when you said it “felt familiar.” I think we all struggle with different parts about church that are just WAY TOO HUMAN…as we do love to interefere with a good thing a lot. It was a huge reminder to me to be part of the solution so my kids don’t have to live through the same thing. I want their questions to be new ones…not the same old same old, you know?
I agree!!! I pray that God leads and guides my Pastor. And that I may be blinded to those who try to be a stumbling block in my path.
Pastors have so many challenges, they definitely need our prayers.
Man, I feel that pain. We went through a lot of churches before finding one where we felt that Jesus was the focus, and not money or popularity.
I’m glad you have a good church to go to. I’ve been going to a mediocre church and supplementing it with online sermons from a really great church that is far away.
